For having nothing to do, I somehow have been really busy! But, it's all about to change because... I HAVE A JOB!!! Yes, you read that right! Christine is no longer unemployed! I accepted a job at Greenville Memorial Hospital on a med-surg floor. I start general nursing orientation next Monday, and after 8 days of that, I start 8 weeks of nursing orientation on the floor. I am so thankful that I FINALLY have a job! God is very good! I'm getting my wisdom teeth out tomorrow! I have 3 1/2 of them in, and the 1/2 one has been causing me great pain during the past couple of days. So, tomorrow, out they come! It shall be a fun couple of days of laying around on the couch and watching tv. Really, though, I'm very anxious for the whole thing to be over with so that I can start my job and continue helping with the Navigators. Anyways, I'm sure there is a lot of other stuff to talk about, but that's all I can think of at the moment (I think I'm a little abnormal today because I have been taking so much Tylenol and Ibuprofen for my toothache!). I hope that everyone is doing well! Oh, and let me know if you want a funny phone call on my way back from the oral surgeon tomorrow. I can't promise that I will call, but I just might! :) Love, Christine The Navigators Fall Conference is this coming weekend! It will be at Black Mountain, NC, and Fran Sciacca is speaking. If you aren't signed up to go, you really should! You don't have to be a Clemson student, or even a student, to go. (If you did, I obviously wouldn't be going! Nor would several other people). Anyways, let me know if you would like to go! Yay, I'm finally updating! So, we finally have internet at our apartment, but, go figure, my computer refuses to go wireless! So, I've been depending on Melinda's laptop for internet. It's frustrating, but I'm so thankful that I have guy neighbors who are computer experts and have been helping me, or else, it'd be really really frustrating! Yay for Greg and Rich! Still no luck on the job hunt. You know, it's funny. I was only 1 of 2 people in my nursing class that wanted to work with old people, out of 55 in my class! Everyone else wanted to work in Pediatrics or Labor and Delivery. And, all that's open right now is Pediatrics and Labor and Delivery! Nothing else! It's craziness. Next week, I'm just going to go apply in person because I'm getting desperate. We'll see what happens! I'm coming down with a cold! Melinda (my roommate) and Greg and Rich and half of campus have colds. Since I live with Melinda, and Greg and Rich practically live here (they've been over almost every night this week), I knew I was doomed. Sure enough, I woke up this morning with a sore throat and sore sinuses and just feeling yucky. Definitely great timing with the job hunt, but oh well. God will provide! Okay, well, it's getting late. I'm going to go to bed so I don't get any sicker! Love, Christine Well, I am back at Clemson! It has been crazy the past couple of days. I got here last Wednesday, where I unloaded my car, packed, and left for the Navs pre-semester retreat in 20 minutes! But even though I was exhausted by the time I got to the retreat in North Carolina, I still had an awesome time. We spent a lot of time praying, talking about evangelizing, and planning the semester. I loved seeing everyone again and spending time with them. It was so encouraging! I got back from the retreat Friday afternoon, where I spent the rest of the day unpacking. Saturday was another crazy day. Workers came to our apartment to redo our kitchen floor (which was definitely needed!), Melinda's parents came bringing a loveseat and chair, and my dad came bringing my furniture. Sadly enough, even though I worked so hard on my furniture before I left, it still wasn't done! After eating lunch with my dad, I spent the rest of the day painting drawers! Sunday, I went to New Spring with a bunch of friends, helped out with the freshmen pizza party, and visited freshmen elsewhere on campus. Finally, today, I got a break from people (Not that I don't like people, because I LOVE them! But I'm introverted, and people wear me out, and I need a break from them sometimes!). I spent the day painting (almost done!), unpacking, polishing the brass knobs from my dresser, and watching movies. Definitely a good day. Tomorrow, it's back to meeting freshmen, which I am super excited about! Anyways, that's what I've been up to lately. Since we don't have internet at our apartment right now, I can't get online often. I'll be updating more when we get internet! Love, Christine Wow, I am exhausted! The past several days have been very hectic, shopping and buying furniture, painting furniture, packing, cleaning, and running millions of errands before I leave for Clemson on Tuesday. Sadly enough, even with all the work I've done, I highly doubt I'll be ready to leave on Tuesday. I think I might have to go up and go to the Navs retreat and then come back home and finish. Oh well. On the bright side, I am going to have beautiful furniture! I picked out a pretty pale yellow color to paint my dresser and tv stand. Even though they have a long way to go before being done, they're already looking great! Very exciting! I am also excited about my car. My wonderful dad washed it for me yesterday, and I spent today waxing it. I still have to do the front and hood, but the rest is done. (My arms are so worn out from sanding and painting that I ran out of energy to finish). It looks all nice and shiny and pretty! Yay! Friday, I went to Sam's with my mom, where I found Anne of Green Gables and Anne of Avonlea on dvd! I have been looking everywhere for them, and I was so excited to find them! I was disappointed, however, when I was watching Anne of Avonlea last night and the dvd cut off before the movie was even half over. Apparently, the whole movie didn't record onto the cd. But, my mom is going to exchange it tomorrow! I have a prayer request. There's this couple that goes to my church, and my parents know them. This morning, their teenage daughter was driving with 3 friends in the car, fell asleep, and wrecked. Their daughter is okay (she has an injured neck), but one girl was killed. (Another girl was flown to Charleston with a lung injury and the other has an ankle injury). When the wreck occured, the daughter called 911 and tried to perform CPR on her friend, but she was pronounced dead at the scene. Obviously, the daughter and her family have got to be going through living hell right now. Not only does she have to deal with her friend's death and the memories of failing to resuscitate her, but she is probably going to be facing involuntary manslaughter charges and possibly a lawsuit from the friend's family. If you wouldn't mind, please be praying for the people involved and their families. Well, I am off to bed. Night! Love, Christine Current mood: I'm back from Mexico! We got back in yesterday morning, after taking the Red Eye flight from San Diego. While sitting on the plane in San Diego and waiting for the rest of the passengers to come aboard, this guy saw my Clemson shirt I was wearing and commented on it. Turns out he is a huge USC fan. It was pretty funny, and also random. I never thought I'd meet a USC fan in San Diego, hehe. Anyways, here are some highlights from the trip: We flew from MB to Cincinnati, and from Cincinnati to San Diego, and from San Diego to Cabo San Lucas. In San Diego, we had this long overnight layover. As in, we landed in San Diego around 1:00 that afternoon, and our flight for Mexico left the next morning at 8 or something. To kill time, we decided to go to Tijuana, Mexico, since San Diego is on the US/Mexico border. We walked across the border, which was interesting. (I, of course, put one foot on each side of the line, so I could say I'd been in two countries at once, hehe). There were HUGE fences all over the place and I saw a helicopter flying overhead to make sure no one was sneaking over from Mexico to the US. It was sad, actually, because so many people are so desperate to come to the US. Anyways, Tijuana was hot and boring. My dad had heard all these stories about the crazy stuff that goes on there, but apparently they have cleaned it out. Now, there’s nothing but shopping and eating and drinking. Oh well, it was still fun. And, I’ve been in two countries at once! Hehehe. Cabo San Lucas’s beaches were gorgeous. I love that clear water! The only disappointment was the snorkeling. There were plenty of fish, but no pretty coral. And, at one beach, my dad got stung by a jellyfish, so that wasn’t pleasant. But it was still fun! My dad and I went fishing. I caught a marlin!!!! It was so much fun, but such hard work. I thought I was strong for a girl, but apparently, I am incredibly weak! My marlin only weighed 80-85 pounds, but I had to hold onto the pole with both hands to keep it from going in the water. In other words, I could hold on but couldn’t reel, lol. My dad reeled while I held for a while, then the captain helped hold so that I could reel. I kept getting mad at the fish because I would reel it close, and it would take out all of the line I had worked so hard to reel in, lol. But, it did eventually come, my dad got plenty of pictures, and we let it go. I’m planning on getting a replica made, which should be a nice addition to the apartment next year, hehe. My only regret about fishing is that my poor dad didn’t have the luck I had. He caught a big mahi mahi, but no marlin for him. He says he will go back one day and get his marlin, though. I think the funnest day in Mexico was the day we went ATVing. (Four-wheeling, in case you didn’t know, which I didn’t until I asked my dad, lol). We went on this desert tour thing where you ride ATVs through the desert. It was SO MUCH FUN. I loved seeing the desert and the cacti and everything. And flying through the dirt/sand on an ATV just makes it even better. Plus, in the middle of the tour, you got to “free-style” on this huge empty area. The mini paths and hills were great fun, but unfortunately I couldn’t go quite as fast as I would have liked. I was driving with my mom on the back, and she kept telling me, “Slow down! You’re not invincible!” lol. Anyways, those are the highlights of the trip. I know there are more, but for the life of me I cannot remember any more right now, lol. I think I’m still tired from that red eye flight. Talk to everyone later! Love, Christine I am so sleepy right now. I've been busy all day running errands and packing for our vacation to Cabos St. Lucas, Mexico. I still have so much more packing to do, and our flight leaves at 6:00 a.m. tomorrow morning. And, I cannot sleep on planes. And, I have a bit of a stomach virus. Hopefully my little virus will go away by tomorrow, or it shall be a fun plane ride! (Especially if we have turbulence...). But even though I'm tired and my stomach hurts, I am very much looking forward to this vacation. I can't wait to lay around on the beach, go snorkeling, shop, and, of course, go sailfish/marlin fishing. It should be lots of fun! Stephan and Jennifer's wedding was this past weekend. Big congrats to them! It was fun at their wedding because I am now something of a wedding "expert." After attending 7 weddings in the past year, I pretty much know how a wedding should run. I ended up explaining a lot of things to Jennifer's maid of honor who had never been in a wedding before, lol. And now, the weddings are finally over. To my knowledge, there is no one engaged that will be inviting me to or having me in their wedding. Yay! I mean, don't get me wrong, I love weddings and I am honored that I got to be in my friends' weddings. But, I am very much glad to have a break from them. Hehe. Well, I am off. Hope everyone has a fun week, and I'll talk to you later when I get back from Mexico! Love, Christine Current mood: I am finally giving everyone a real, true update! Yay! First off, I should start with Greg and Amy's wedding this past weekend. I know it's been several days later, but I always post about the weddings I attend, and I especially want to post about this one. In case you didn't know, Amy is my very bestest friend in the world. She's my "sista" as we call each other, because we look so much alike and everyone asks if we're sisters. And she really is the sister I've never had. If you've never met her, you definitely should. She is probably the sweetest person you will ever meet. She has the biggest heart for missions, and I know that she and Greg will one day be missionaries in Guatemala, or some other Central American country. Anyways, I probably should mention the wedding, lol. Amy was just stunning. I mean, she's always pretty, but I've never seen her as pretty as she was on her wedding day. The ceremony went smoothly, even though all of us bridesmaids fought back tears the whole time. I missed almost everything that happened at the reception (i.e. first dance, cake cutting) because I was talking with friends. But, as far as I know, everything went nicely at that too. I really had a great weekend just spending time with Amy and her family and getting to know her and Greg's family better. Big congrats to them! My dad got a new truck today! He needed a bigger truck to be able to pull his boat, and he's been looking around for a while. He got an F-150 (sorry all you Chevy fans!). It's a pretty hunter green color, and that's about all I can tell you, lol. But I love how it drives, all nice and smooth. The only thing I don't like is that it's automatic, because I love manual. My dad would rather have manual as well, but unfortunately big trucks don't usually come in manual. Oh well, it's still a nice truck! I went shopping today for interview clothes! Since I am now officially an RN, I can officially apply for nursing jobs, hehe. Not that I've applied yet (although I'm looking), but I want to be prepared for an interview. I went to Stein Mart and found a really pretty pink skirt for half off. I also found a white skirt and jacket with pink trim, both of which were 60% off. Gotta love sales, hehe. I still have to find shirts to go with them both. Pretty much every shade of pink matches my pink skirt, but I just didn't find exactly what I wanted. They didn't have my size in the shirt that matches my white suit, but I'm on the hunt for that as well. But both skirts are very cute and professional looking. And I'm very excited that they're pink! :D Tomorrow I am off to Summerville to go to Jennifer's bachelorrette party, bridal luncheon, wedding rehearsal, wedding rehearsal dinner, and wedding. I will be back Saturday night. It should be a fun couple of days! Love, Christine Current mood: I have happy news to share with everyone. I am now officially an RN! I passed my nursing boards!!! Thanks so much for everyone's encouragement and prayers. I will post a longer update later. Just thought I'd share my news! :D |
